Introduction: As per WHO, substance abuse refers to harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substances including alcohol (more than 148ml/day) and illicit drugs.1 Psychoactive substances use can lead to dependence syndrome- a cluster of behavioral, cognitive and physiological phenomenon that develop after repeated substance use ant that typically include a strong desire to that drug, difficulties in controlling its use, persisting in its use despite harmful consequences, a higher priority given to rug use than to other activities and obligations, increased tolerance and sometimes a physical withdrawal state.
Aims and Objectives:
• To study the prevalence of substance abuse among medical students of batch 2014 and 2016
• To find out the determinants for substance abuse among medical students
Material & Methods: A Cross Sectional Study with Focus Group Discussion was conducted in Subharti Medical College in 1st and 3rd year MBBS students. 200 students, all students from 2 batches was included in the study, so the sample size is 200 students
Result: The students of 2014 batch were indulged more in substance abuse as compared to 2016 batch.
